Seedance 2.5 vs Seedance 2.0: Differences and Which to Use

Seedance 2.5 is the model for long takes and heavy references: one generation runs up to 30 seconds and accepts up to 30 reference images, 10 reference videos and 10 audio clips. Seedance 2.0 stops at 15 seconds and 9 / 3 / 3, but it is the one of the pair that outputs 4K, and it costs fewer credits per second at every resolution both offer. Choose 2.5 when the job needs length, many references or audio-only input; choose 2.0 when it needs 4K or a lower cost per second.

Both are ByteDance models served through BytePlus ModelArk. AiuniVid calls them by their public catalog IDs, dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628 and dreamina-seedance-2-0-260128, so every limit on this page can be checked against BytePlus’s own documentation, linked at the end. Specs and prices are read from the configuration our generator validates and bills with; the BytePlus pages were last checked on .

What changed in Seedance 2.5, according to BytePlus

BytePlus introduces Seedance 2.5 as “a next-generation video creation model with major improvements in long-form storytelling, omni reference support, and editing.” Its description of Seedance 2.0 stresses different strengths: restoring detail with high precision, keeping character features stable, and use cases such as commercial advertising, film and TV production, and social media marketing. Read together, 2.5 is not a drop-in replacement. It extends length and control, while 2.0 remains the higher-resolution model of the two.

Three of those changes are directly usable on AiuniVid:

  • Longer single takes. 30 seconds per generation instead of 15. A scene that needed two 2.0 clips joined in an edit can come out as one continuous generation. The Seedance 2.5 page lists every parameter it accepts.
  • A larger reference budget. 30 image slots instead of 9, and 30 seconds of reference video instead of 15. That leaves room for a multi-angle character sheet plus a location and a style frame in one reference to video request, the mode BytePlus calls omni reference.
  • Audio as the only input. 2.5 can generate from a music track or a voice recording with no image and no video. On AiuniVid, 2.0 accepts audio only alongside an image or a video.

Added since launch: draft mode. BytePlus now lets Seedance 2.5 render a 480P draft first, then a 1080P final from it. The final reuses the draft’s prompt, references, duration and seed, so it stays consistent with the take you approved; it is regenerated rather than upscaled, so fine details can differ. The draft is billed as a normal 480P clip and the final as a normal 1080P clip; the saving comes from throwing away weak takes at 480P instead of 1080P. A draft can be turned into a final for 7 days. Seedance 2.0 has no draft mode. Costs, limits and the API calls are in the Seedance 2.5 draft mode guide.

Two points from BytePlus’s own documentation temper those gains:

  • More slots are a ceiling, not a target. The Seedance 2.5 prompt guide says results are generally better with a modest number of subjects, and that stability can drop, with retries needed, as you add more. Past a handful of subjects it recommends one view per image rather than one image holding several angles. Start with the few references that define the shot and add more only when the output drifts.
  • Editing and extension are not separate modes here. BytePlus lists video editing and video extension for both models, and highlights timestamp-based editing and multi-round extension for 2.5. AiuniVid runs text, image and reference generation, with no dedicated editing or extension mode, so neither capability is a reason to prefer one model on this site.

Resolution: the row most comparisons get wrong

Search for this comparison and you will find Seedance 2.5 described as 720p-only, as 1080p, and as 4K. Platforms describe their own builds and price lists, and they do not agree. BytePlus ModelArk is the route AiuniVid uses, and its tutorial lists the same resolutions we offer:

  • Seedance 2.5 (dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628): 480P / 720P / 1080P
  • Seedance 2.0 (dreamina-seedance-2-0-260128): 480P / 720P / 1080P / 4K

Two things follow. If the delivery spec says 4K, 2.0 is the only option of the two. And at 1080P the pair is not interchangeable even though both render it: BytePlus lists 2.5 at 10-bit colour depth there and 2.0 at 8-bit, and AiuniVid delivers 2.5 at that resolution as H.265/HEVC. Some browsers will not play HEVC inline, so a clip meant for quick in-browser review may need downloading first.

Cost per second, side by side

AiuniVid charges per second of output, and the rate depends on model and resolution. Current rates, in credits per second:

Credits per second by resolution
ResolutionSeedance 2.5Seedance 2.02.5 ÷ 2.0
480P16.611.41.5×
720P37.024.21.5×
1080P65.6*60.01.1×
4KNot available124.6—

* The 1080P rate for Seedance 2.5 reflects a limited-time BytePlus discount that ends Oct 17, 2026 at 00:00 (UTC+8). Its list rate is 91.0 credits per second, so the gap to 2.0 at that resolution widens when the discount ends.

One credit is 0.01 USD. The same figures for every Seedance tier are on the Seedance credit pricing page, and the generator shows the exact quote for your settings before anything is charged.

The same 30 seconds, two ways

At 720P, one 30-second Seedance 2.5 generation quotes 1110 credits. Covering the same running time on Seedance 2.0 takes 2 generations of 15 seconds, 726 credits in total. 2.0 is cheaper, but it gives you separate takes that have to match at the cut, typically by using the final frame of one clip as the opening frame of the next with first and last frame control. 2.5 earns its premium when that join would show.

Reference video also shows up in the quote. When a request includes reference video, the quote counts the reference seconds as well as the output, at a lower rate per second. Filling the 30-second reference allowance on 2.5 therefore costs more than a text-only request of the same length.

Which to use, by job

Which Seedance model to use for each job
JobUseWhy
One continuous shot longer than 15 sSeedance 2.52.0 cannot produce it in one generation
Final delivery at 4KSeedance 2.02.5 tops out at 1080P
A recurring character from a multi-angle sheet, or more than 9 reference imagesSeedance 2.52.0 takes 9 images
More than 3 motion references, or over 15 s of reference videoSeedance 2.52.0 takes 3 videos, 15 s combined
A clip driven by music or voice, with no image or videoSeedance 2.5Only 2.5 accepts audio as the sole input
Short social clips where cost per second mattersSeedance 2.0Lower rate at every resolution both offer
Animating a product still with a defined start and endEither; start on 2.0Both take 2 frame images, and 2.0 costs less
Testing prompts before the final renderEither, at 480PThe lowest per-second rate on both; Seedance 2.0 Fast and Mini go lower still

When the answer is unclear, test instead of guessing. Run the same text to video prompt for 4 seconds at 480P on each model, which quotes 66 credits on 2.5 and 45 on 2.0, then render the one you keep at its final length and resolution.

One thing switching will not fix: a recognizable real person in an input image is rejected on both models. The compliant workaround and the other common rejection causes are listed on the Seedance 2.0 page.

Switching models in the API

On the Open API the model is one field. Replace seedance-2.0-reference-to-video with seedance-2.5-reference-to-video (the mode suffix stays the same) and the rest of the request carries over, provided it fits the new model’s limits. Two habits make the switch safe:

  • Read each model’s allowed durations, qualities and reference counts from GET /v1/models instead of hard-coding them.
  • Send the same body to POST /v1/videos/generations/quote once per model. Quote and charge use one formula, so the difference you see is the difference you pay.

Endpoints, error codes and webhook signing are covered in the Seedance API docs.

Frequently asked questions

Is Seedance 2.5 better than Seedance 2.0?

It does more in a single generation: longer clips, more references and audio-only input. It is not ahead on every axis. Seedance 2.0 is the one that outputs 4K, and it costs less per second at every resolution both offer. Choose by what the job needs, not by version number.

Why do some sites say Seedance 2.5 only reaches 720p, and others say 4K?

Each platform describes its own build and price list. BytePlus ModelArk’s tutorial lists 480P / 720P / 1080P for dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628 and puts 4K only under Seedance 2.0. On AiuniVid, Seedance 2.5 renders 480P / 720P / 1080P.

Is Seedance 2.5 on AiuniVid the same model as the one in Dreamina?

AiuniVid calls BytePlus ModelArk with the public model ID dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628, which BytePlus’s documentation names Dreamina Seedance 2.5. AiuniVid is a separate service, not Dreamina or CapCut. Plans, credits and features inside those apps do not carry over, and the limits on this page are the ones that apply here.

Can I reuse the same prompt when I switch models?

Yes. Both models take the same prompt and the same @image1, @video1 and @audio1 references. Only the ceilings differ: a request longer than 15 seconds, or with more references than Seedance 2.0 accepts, has to be trimmed before it runs on 2.0.

Do both models generate sound?

Yes. BytePlus lists audio generation for both, and on AiuniVid it is on by default and included in the quote. The difference is on the input side: only Seedance 2.5 accepts audio as the sole reference.

Do I need separate credits for each model?

No. One balance covers every Seedance model at 0.01 USD per credit. Purchased credits stay valid for 365 days, and a failed job releases its credits automatically.

Try both on the same prompt

Run a short test on each, keep the one that fits, then render it at full length and resolution. Every quote appears before anything is charged.
